AUSTRALIAN former Warrington Wolves star Sid Domic has spoken highly of one of the town's community rugby league unsung heroes.

The centre or back-rower, who made 48 Wire appearances between 2001 and 2003 after joining the club from NRL side Penrith Panthers, surprised Latchford Albion chairman Mike Byron by sending a video paying tribute to him.

Domic, 47, who also had spells with Brisbane Broncos, London Broncos, Wakefield Trinity and Hull FC and Dewsbury Rams, used to help out with coaching at Latchford and wanted to add his thoughts to Byron being inducted into Albion's hall of fame.

Painter and decorator Byron has served the club as player, coach, director of rugby and now chairman over 35 years.

Byron's continued commitment to the club is recognised as being a driving force in putting in place the structures and facilities at their transformed Latchford Albion home.

Domic said: "I want to congratulate Mick on 35 years with Latchford and for the contribution he has made to the club.

"I'm sure that everyone in that community really appreciates what you've done and created.

"I for one know the culture that was there - the family feel that you created and all those around you.

"It made me feel at home, made me feel a part of the community and also made my family feel a part of the community.

"To be a part of the club was one of the highlights of my footy career.

"To meet all those guys was great but Mick's contribution at the club is enormous and after 35 years for him to be a part of the hall of fame is a great achievement.

"He deserves it, and maybe it could have come a bit earlier!

"He and his family have been part of the club for so long - contributing as players, coaches and managers - it's great to see him getting the accolades he deserves."
