WARRINGTON-born boxer Amir Unsworth is hoping to win his first professional title later this year.
Serving soldier Unsworth, after recently picking up his 11th win from 15 fights, is set to compete for the Midlands Area lightweight title against Wolverhampton’s dangerous Steve Saville on December 3.
In his last fight, the 29-year-old fought Nuneaton’s tough Kristian Laight and dominated, winning every round with accurate punches and higher work rate.
Unsworth, who is a physical training instructor for regiment 1 Mercian, is now in training for a 28-mile marathon he is running on October 31 to raise awareness and money for his regiment. The race will start in Warrington.
For his last fight, Unsworth wore a ‘Mercian Marathon’ t-shirt to the ring as a mark of respect for the 12 soldiers from his regiment who were killed in action while serving in Afghanistan.
Unsworth has been helping train the troops who are preparing to go out and serve their country as well as helping injured soldiers regain fitness.
