SUCCESSIVE wins against lowly rivals have improved Crosfields’ position regarding National Conference League Division One survival.

Friday’s 28-22 win at Ince Rose Bridge took them one place and one point above their hosts, leaving them in eighth spot and five points clear of the bottom two.

Soap, promoted last season, had defeated second-from-bottom Pilkingtons at home the week before and will next face the test of entertaining runaway league leaders West Bowling at Hood Lane on Saturday, kick-off 2.30pm.

Crosfields led 26-6 at Ince and battled hard to hang on to the victory with their best defensive effort of the season so far.

Try scorers against Ince were Tom Millington, Tom Smith, Jack Fox, Luke Walker and Ben Steele, while Brad Stanway kicked four goals.

Meanwhile, Woolston Rovers snatched a 13-12 victory over Dewsbury Celtic with a late drop goal in National Conference League Division Two to make it three wins in succession and keep the pressure on the top three.

Rovers broke the deadlock midway through the first half when hooker Adam Files forced his way over from dummy half and Dec Leonard converted.

But when Matt Taylor was sin binned for throwing the ball away Celtic took advantage to cross twice and take a 12-6 lead into the second half.

Ryan Palin charged over five minutes into the second half and Leonard converted to tie the scores.

As the game entered the closing moments Rovers managed to take a bit of control territorially and with two minutes remaining man-of-the-match Leonard coolly slotted over the winning drop goal.

Rovers: James Tarpey; Alex Pendlebury, Karlton Bates, Tom Byrne, Louis Griffiths; Joe Roper, Dec Leonard; Ryan Palin, Adam Files, Ryan Hickman, Dan Fearnley, Scott Whiteley, Harry Files. Subs: Blake Turner, Sean Boyle, Ben Crewe, Matt Taylor.

Woolston visit league leaders Waterhead on Saturday, kick-off 2.30pm.
