CROSFIELDS bowed out of the Rugby League Challenge Cup at the first hurdle on Saturday.
They were defeated 36-16 at recently reformed Wakefield side, Westgate Common.
Soap fought back in the second half but too much damage had been done in the opening period when the hosts had the downhill advantage and established a 28-0 lead.
In the first meeting between the sides since a BARLA Cup tie 34 years ago, Westgate got away with slowing down Soap's play-the-balls and that with clever use of three-man tackles and tremendous enthusiasm also played a part in building their winning lead in front of a large vocal crowd.
Crosfields, who also produced some uncharacteristic errors, rallied too late to make a difference to the outcome.
They will seek to dust themselves down and go again in the Stuart Middleton Foundation Warrington Rugby League Cup Final against Latchford Albion at Victoria Park on Saturday, February 25, kick-off 2.30pm. Entry fee is £2 and £1 for concessions.
The Alliance final between Crosfields A and Burtonwood Bridge is scheduled for this Saturday, February 18, at Victoria Park, kick-off 2.30pm. Entry fee is £2 and £1 for concessions.
