STEVE Jennings says he is keen to extend his loan spell at Warrington Town until the end of the season.
The experienced midfielder joined Yellows on a temporary deal from Southport in November and has added vital know-how to Town’s engine room.
He is due to return to the Sandgrounders on January 7 but Jennings told the Guardian he would be “more than happy” to remain at Cantilever Park.
“At the minute, it’s going really well for me,” he said.
“I’ve gone from not playing at Southport in funny circumstances to an environment where I’m playing every week.
“If I do well at Warrington between now and my loan ending and they are happy for me to stay on until the end of the season, I’m sure I’d be happy as well.
“I don’t things are going to change too much at Southport.
“It is a cliché that’s thrown around, but we really do have a good set of lads here.
“We’ve got a bit of everything, it’s a proper team and we’re at the right end of the table. I don’t see why I wouldn’t stay until the end of the season.”
On his Warrington debut against Sutton Coldfield Town on November 4, Jennings got his Yellows career off to a flying start by scoring inside the first minute of a 2-1 victory.
The 33-year-old believes that, slowly but surely, he is getting back to full fitness after missing much of last season.
“I had a bad injury around this time last year and it kept me out for around 10 months,” he said.
“I’d never had such a bad injury in my career and it happened in my early 30s when I was just a bit past my prime!
“I’ve been stop-start since the summer in terms of getting my fitness back. At Southport I played 10 games on the spin when I probably should have dipped in and out to ease myself back in.
“Now, I finally feel as if I’m getting myself back to somewhere near 100 per cent, which can only benefit myself and the team.”
The 33-year-old has had an impressive career, playing in the Football League with Tranmere Rovers and Coventry City as well as a spell in Scotland with Motherwell.
Yellows boss Paul Carden has often spoken of the value of Jennings’ experience in a relatively young squad and the midfielder says he has enjoyed passing on tips to the younger players.
“If Cards wants me to be the wise head on the pitch and in the dressing room, I’m more than happy to do that,” he said.
“I’ve played that role for a long time having been captain at Tranmere for a few years.
“In the short time I’ve been here, I’ve seen myself going to the younger lads and passing on a bit of information to help them.
“Its people like Jamie McDonald, who’s come on leaps and bounds in the past few months, and Dylan Vassallo that I’ve found myself speaking to.
“I have got a lot more experience than them. I’m not Jose Mourinho or anything like that, but the younger players should be a sponge to things like that and they have been since I’ve been here.
“When I was younger, a lot of people gave me tips and advice and I like to think I’ve done that as well.”
