Warrington 31 Eccles 19
WARRINGTON squeeze past Eccles in a tight affair for their second win in a row.
Ben Hockenhull kicked a penalty before the visitors got the first try of the game following a catch-and-drive line-out.
The sides exchanged two penalties each before Warrington got their first try of the afternoon.
Joe Wilson made ground in his own half before slipping a delicate pass to Nathan Beesley and the young speedster handed onto Hockenhull in close support.
The scrum-half unselfishly sent in Haydn Fraser between the posts.
Hockenhull’s conversion made it 16-11 at the break.
After the sides traded penalties at the start of the second half, Warrington were awarded a penalty try, stretching the lead to 12 points.
However the visitors reduced the gap after a quick-tap penalty resulted in them crossing the whitewash.
Warrington stood firm though and sealed the win when Max Caldwell scored in the corner after Max Walker’s break.
Burnage 2nd 34 Warrington 2nd 31
WARRINGTON’ S late comeback proved in vain at Burnage.
The visitors opened the scoring when Kevin Jones crossed, but three catch-and-drive tries gave Burnage command of the contest.
The visitors replied with the first of three tries for Josh Downes, and the sides turned around with the score 19-10.
Burnage’s forwards showed their power again by forcing another try after the interval, but two more from Downes, both converted by Shaun McDermott, put the visitors back within two points.
However another catch-and-drive try, along with a penalty, effectively won the game for Burnage despite Phil Lyons dotting down late on.
Warrington 3rd 31 Bowdon 2nd 55
DESPITE fielding only 13 men, Warrington gave a brave account of themselves.
Depleted by injuries and unavailability, they were still able to score tries through Ian McLarney, Sam Nichols, Ryan Carter and Dan Penney.
