CHAIRMAN Mark Loveless has guided Winsford United to their best position of the season.
The Blues went sixth in North West Counties Division One with a 2-1 win over Woodley Sports on Saturday, and Loveless is in no rush to find a permanent replacement for Kevin Langley.
He took over joint chairman and managerial duties after Winsford's FA Vase exit to St Helens Town a week last Friday, when Langley left for Congleton Town following four weeks in caretaker charge of United.
"At the moment I'm leaving it as it is," said Loveless. "I'm pleased with the way the team have carried on after what's happened and if they carry on like that I think we will be pushing at the top."
After Neil Morley, Carl Rendell and Wes Simpson, Colin Rose became the fourth United player to leave for Witton Albion in the space of five months last week.
Right back Morley could be set for a return to Barton Stadium, however, as the club has put seven days' notice in for him.
When Langley left for Congleton Town last week, the expected exodus of players to the side second from bottom of Winsford's division appears to have been averted.
"When you look at our position it beggars belief why a manger would go to a side second from bottom," added Loveless. "But none of the players have gone.
"But we need a couple of players, one to replace Colin Rose, who has been our best player this season."
Winsford have arranged a friendly against Leek CSOB this Saturday (3pm). Admission is £2 for adults, 50p for children and OAPs.
The Blues' next North West Counties Division One game is at Newcastle Town next Saturday.
Last Tuesday, Winsford knocked Barnton out of the Mid Cheshire Senior Cup, 4-1 after extra-time.
