A PROLIFIC thief has been jailed after he was caught following a spree of till thefts across Warrington south.
Steven Gorvett, of Longshaw Street, Dallam, was arrested on his 31st birthday on June 23 for four till snatches at Bargain Booze on Westy Lane, Latchford on June 17, the Spar on Thelwall New Road, Thelwall on June 18, Bargain Booze on Chester Road on June 20 and Bargain Booze on Kingsway North on June 21.
He pleaded guilty at Warrington Magistrates’ Court last Wednesday and put behind bars for four months after receiving four-month concurrent sentences for each theft.
Inspector Gary McIntyre, from Warrington south NPU, said: “He had been doing a quick succession of thefts, going into the shops, distracting the cashiers and when the till was open grabbing money and running off.
“My staff did an excellent job of tracking him down with a very focused ‘can do’ attitude to find him and stop him from committing these crimes, which are very frightening and distressing to the cashiers.
“It was imperative to us that we catch him and stop him as he would undoubtedly have carried on. We are dedicated to identifying and preventing crimes in this area and we are determined to stop these kind of offences from happening.”
