THE police helicopter was scrambled and sent to assist officers in Warrington last night, Wednesday.

It came during an incident of trespass on the railway line in the town, forcing trains passing through the area to be halted.

British Transport Police has confirmed that it received reports of a person on the railway line at around 10pm near Warrington Central station.

The police helicopter was deployed to assist officers on the ground, with BTP joined by colleagues from Cheshire Police.

A BTP spokesman said: "We were called to Warrington Central station shortly before 10pm last night, Wednesday, April 24, following reports of a person trespassing on the line.

"Officers attended, alongside Cheshire Police and a helicopter from National Police Air Service, and trains were stopped while officers carried out a search of the tracks.

“The person was located by Cheshire Police on non-BTP jurisdiction.”
