WARRINGTON is set for an ‘amazing day’ when it hosts stage three of the 2024 Tour of Britain Women.

Taking place from Thursday June 6 to Sunday June 9, the race will see the world’s top female riders and teams go head-to-head across four tough stages of racing.

Warrington will host both the start and finish of stage three on Saturday 8 June, with a flatter route that will favour the sprinters.

Cllr Paul Warburton, Warrington Borough Council’s cabinet member for statutory health and adult social care and chair of Warrington’s health and wellbeing board, said: “I am very grateful to the council officers and British Cycling for the huge amount of work and collaboration that has enabled Warrington to once again host a prestigious international cycling event.

“I am delighted that Warrington residents will be able to welcome back elite cyclists and enjoy what promises to be another fantastic and memorable cycling event for our town. Warrington enjoyed and successfully hosted the Tour of Britain cycle race in September 2021 and it has since been the ambition of the council to bring the women’s race to our town.

“I am pleased that Warrington Council has been able to work with British Cycling to help deliver the 2024 Tour of Britain Women and look forward to an amazing day for the whole of Warrington.

“Cycling is a great way to get around. It promotes health and wellbeing and I’m sure that seeing professional cyclists in our town will encourage and inspire families and residents of all ages to cycle more.”
