POLICE investigating the death of a man near the town centre have given an update.
A large police presence was in attendance outside Warrington Town Hall on Tuesday morning following an incident in adjacent Bank Park.
A number of Cheshire Police vehicles were spotted in the vicinity, as well as a police tape cordon in the park.
Cheshire Police confirmed that this was due to the discovery of a body and following calls reporting concern for the welfare of a man.
When the news broke on Tuesday, the force said that enquiries in relation to the death were ongoing.
A spokesman for Cheshire Police said: “At 7.56am on Tuesday, April 16, police were called to reports of concerns for the welfare of a man in Bank Park, Warrington.
“Officers and paramedics attended, and sadly a 47-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Enquiries are ongoing on behalf of the coroner.”
In an update on the incident this afternoon, Friday, the spokesman added: “It is not believed to be suspicious at this stage.”
