THE Warrington streets with the highest number of reports of burglary throughout the whole of last year has been revealed.

A study by the Warrington Guardian using monthly crime data from the Home Office-run site police.uk has revealed the burglary hotspots.

The data made available by the police is for 'reported crimes'.

This means that some incidents may have been reported multiple times, and equally, some incidents may have taken place and gone unreported.

These are the streets in Warrington with the most reports of burglary in 2023, according to the data:

  • Crosfield Street – 9
  • Park Road – 6
  • A5061 – 5
  • Regent Street – 5
  • Halliday Close – 4
  • O'Leary Street – 4
  • Orion Boulevard – 4
  • White Street – 4

A spokesman for Cheshire Police said: “Burglars are often opportunistic thieves who prey on houses and flats.

“They seek out any opening that they can take advantage of, specifically doors and windows that are left open or unlocked or are easy to force.

“Anything of value that they might spot through a window will only spur them on.

“But it really does not take much to deter these thieves – just smart thinking.

“Burglars will use a variety of ways to avoid being noticed.

“They do not want to be seen or heard by a neighbour or passer-by because they will feel exposed and identifiable.”

Offering advice the force says that prickly shrubbery along boundaries and fence lines acts as an effective natural barrier, while gravel driveways and paths will make sure you hear anyone approach.

CCTV is also a valuable tool, as are burglar alarms and good lighting.

Burglars have been known to use ladders to access upper windows that appear to be unlocked to avoid intruder alarm sensors on the ground floor.
