A RESTAURANT celebrating northern hospitality and heritage has been named one of the top new places in the UK – and it’s not too far away from Warrington.
Nord opened its doors exactly one year ago offering friendly and engaging service paired with a food and drink offering built on local relationships with suppliers.
Liverpudlian executive chef Daniel Heffy defines his style of cooking as “travelled British” which a nod towards his classic local roots and time spent in Scandinavia.
The funky retro restaurant brings Scandi flavours to Liverpool’s The Albert Dock and is one of 23 venues to be named in the country’s top new restaurants of 2023.
Lifestyle and travel magazine Conde Nast Traveller sent judges Angela Hartnett and Andi Oliver as well as food writers Gizzi Erskine and Tom Parker Bowles to dozens of new ventures all over the UK and they had to whittle the list down to just 23.
Liverpool’s Nord on Old Hall Street is the perfect mash-up of Scouse-Scandi where Daniel Heffy gives travelled British food its time in the spotlight.
Judges noted the retro swish décor – pink and green with curvy alcove seating – and the crowd pleasers such as beer-battered cod Kiev or grilled mackerel were big hitters.
The restaurant uses local suppliers North by Sud-Ouest Charcuterie which is less than three miles away and Wirral’s Edge & Sons Butchers.
Other restaurants to make the inaugural list include Yorkshire’s newly Michelin-starred Mýse and Tommy Banks’ The Abbey Inn.
