FIREFIGHTERS are currently working to tackle a huge fire at a scrap yard in Widnes this evening, Wednesday.
Residents are being urged to keep their windows shut as a result of large plumes of smoke from the blaze on Dennis Road, which can be seen from miles around in Warrington.
At least eight fire engines from Widnes, Penketh, Runcorn, Warrington, Chester, Frodsham, Birchwood and Lymm fire stations are at the scene.

They are being assisted by a water bowser from Powey Lane Fire Station and an aerial ladder platform from Lymm Fire Station.
Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service says it received reports of the large blaze at the commercial premises at around 5.45pm.
The fire involves approximately 200 tonnes of scrap metal, and crews are working to protect a building on site which is not involved in the fire.
Firefighters are using four main water jets, along with the aerial ladder platform to enable them to get water into the fire from above.
Due to hose reels running along the A557 to access Bridgewater Canal, one lane of the carriageway northbound has been closed by police.
The junction of Dennis Road is closed at Earle Road, and Tan House Lane is closed at the junction of Moss Bank Road and Fiddlers Ferry Road.
Due to a number of vehicles in attendance at this incident, people are being asked to avoid the area of Widnes.
A fire service spokesman added: “Residents are still being asked to keep windows and doors closed as a precaution while the fire is being extinguished.”
