WELCOME to Behind the Lens, a feature that shines a light on the talented photographers in our Warrington Guardian Camera Club group.
This week, we’re looking at Ray Tickle’s favourite images.
Ray lives in Orford and he’s captured some fantastic photos around Warrington, including St John’s Church in Walton, sunflowers at Kenyon Hall Farm and a perfectly peaceful picture of newborn baby Adam.
When and why did you take up photography?
I first took up photography seven years ago. I was invited to my nephew’s wedding in Scotland with all the family and I just took my old ‘point and shoot’ camera with me. During the trip, I went on long walks in some stunning landscapes and I used that old camera more than I ever had. When I got home, I bought my first DSLR and I was hooked on the art’s learning curve.
Where is your favourite place to take pics and why?
That’s a hard question! I love the coast and I'm probably there more than anywhere else especially Meols beach and New Brighton. If I could wake up in any one place with my camera in my hand it would be Glencoe. It's just an incredible place but so are Snowdonia and the Lake District.
What’s your favourite subject matter?
Due to the fact that I'm on the coast more than anywhere else, I would have to say the boats on Meols beach or one of the west coast lighthouses.
What do you like about being part of Warrington Guardian Camera Club?
I was one of the first members when the club was originally set up and the feeling of being part of a community is excellent. The club was originally created for entries into the Warrington Guardian calendar competition and it grew as more people entered the competition and had their photographs in the Guardian. The way people were, and still are, learning from each other is excellent.
If you could photograph anyone/any place/anything, who/what would it be?
I would love to do a photography tour of Iceland or Yosemite National Park in California.
