Here 35-year-old Danielle Howarth, who owns Danielle Louise Hair Design at Park Manor in Victoria Park on Knutsford Road, tells us how the Covid-19 pandemic made her want to open her own salon and why you can never have enough qualifications in the constantly changing hairdressing industry.

Tell me a bit about your salon

I own a small boutique salon away from the hustle and bustle of busy high streets. There is free parking right outside and I offer premium one to one service to my clients. It’s nice and quiet with lovely views of the gardens from the window.

What do you do? What services do you provide?

I do hair colour, couture hair colouring and hair cutting as well as hair styling and hair up, and I’m a hair and scalp specialist.

Why did you decide to open your own salon?

I wanted to create a space for my clients to feel comfortable and relaxed, while offering a premium service and using the best quality products and colours.

What’s your hair and beauty background?

I qualified from hairdressing at the age of 17 after doing an apprenticeship in a salon in Stockton Heath. I worked my way up to salon manager until the salon closed and then I decided to go self-employed. I did this for six years and then opened my own salon in April last year.

Why this type of business?

I pride myself in looking after other people. I love seeing my clients walk out of my salon with a new-found confidence.

How did the Covid-19 pandemic affect your business/career?

I was self-employed during the pandemic, which was extremely tough as I couldn’t see any of my clients.

What makes your business different to others in the same area/field? What sets your business apart from your competitors?

I offer a friendly, honest and professional experience. I am an award-winning hairdresser and was shortlisted in the Warrington Guardian’s Best Hair Salon 2022 competition earlier this year. I have an extensive array of knowledge when it comes to hair and hair colouring. I use premium products and colours that are only available to selected hairdressers in the same area.

Why do loyal clients return to your business?

I think clients like the whole experience and their journey through the salon, from the initial consultation right through to the end result.

What’s next? What do the next few months hold for you and your salon?

I plan to take more courses and complete more training – there is so much available in this industry that it’s impossible to know everything. I’ll continue to strive to make all my clients welcome, happy and comfortable in my salon.
