HOT on the heels of opening their second shop in Warrington, a popular bakery has scooped Warrington’s Best Dessert 2022 award.

And White Lace Bakery will soon be appearing on national television.

Lindsay Albon and her husband Graham opened the small family-run business in Golden Square just over two years ago having had a stall on the temporary Warrington Market from 2018.

Together with eldest daughter Lauren Paget and head baker Nathan Ramsay, the couple have made such a success of the town centre venue that they opened another shop in Culcheth just three weeks ago.

They are the latest winners of our Best of 2022 competition.

Since its launch at the end of April, we have named winners in 18 different categories.

Top honours for hair, nails, beauty, fitness, gym, children and independent shop have been given out as well as those for fish and chips, pies, pubs, beer garden, café, breakfast, afternoon tea, roast dinner, pizza and burger already decided.

Voting is currently taking place in the latest round of the competition with the award for Best Curry 2022 up for grabs and the closing date is midnight on Monday, September 5.

Next up we were searching for the town’s best dessert and White Lace Bakery came out on top.

Warrington shoppers are regular customers at the attractive premises in Golden Square enjoying cupcakes, brownies, blondies, milkshakes and ice creams six days a week.

There are also cookie dough creations and cookie pies with flavours like white chocolate rainbow and Malteser.

They offer the same mouth-watering treats at their new shop on Warrington Road in Culcheth where they regularly sell out of cakes due to the high demand.

Lindsay, who is 40, was made redundant from her high-pressure job in 2016 and decided to make wedding cakes, teaching herself with online videos and tips.

Before Covid-19, she was making 90 wedding cakes a year and made her final ‘big day’ cake last weekend deciding to focus on the cakes sold in the shop and other special occasion cakes.

Lindsay said: “We have customers who come in at the same time each week and order the same things – they’re very loyal.

“It’s wonderful to think that so many people enjoy what we do.

“It’s overwhelming and also very humbling to hear people say such lovely things about us in the nominations and during the voting stage for this award.”

During the Covid-19 pandemic, the family delivered hundreds of boxes of cakes each week to homes and businesses all over Warrington including the hospital and local police stations.

Lindsay said: “This delivery service was the making of the business and we were delivering hundreds of boxes of cakes each week as well as afternoon tea treats.

“We’re excited to see what happens next!

“Thank you so much to everyone who voted for us.

We wouldn’t be who we are without our amazing customers.

“This award means the world to us and we can’t thank everyone enough.”

White Lace Bakery, which has more than 11,000 followers on Facebook, will be appearing live on Sky News on Tuesday afternoon when Lindsay will be discussing the business during a special broadcast from the town centre premises.
