WITH “lush cakes, wonderful sandwiches and huge scones” it’s no wonder CJ’s Coffee House and Tearoom in Penketh scooped Warrington’s Best Afternoon Tea award.
The Warrington Road venue is the latest winner in our Best of 2022 competition taking Warrington’s Best Afternoon Tea crown with a victory in the voting earlier this week.
Each week, we focus on different categories to find the best that Warrington has to offer with awards for hair, nails, beauty and fitness being given out as well as fish and chips, pies, pubs and breakfast already decided.
Voting is currently taking place in the latest round of the competition with the award for Best Independent Shop up for grabs with a closing date of midnight on Monday.
CJ’s Coffee House and Tearoom was named Best for Afternoon Tea 2022 and owners Ben and Alison Ashwin couldn’t be happier.
They opened the coffee shop in 2018 hoping to create a place where customers would feel welcome and they’ve succeeded.
Everything is made fresh to order each day with breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea offered five days a week – Tuesday to Saturday.
Their award-winning afternoon includes six finger sandwiches followed by three mini cakes, which are currently lemon and raspberry cake, chocolate brownie and oreo rocky road.
Their homemade plain or fruit scones are served with jam and clotted cream with fresh strawberries and unlimited hot drinks.
One review on their Facebook page said: “Fantastic food - lush cakes, wonderful sandwiches, huge scones and really tasty strawberries.
“The bottomless drinks is an excellent touch too.
“Fantastic friendly service - we could not have been made to feel more welcome from the moment we walked in the door to the moment we left.
“One of the best value afternoon teas I’ve had and great value for money.
“They even gave us tubs to take home the couple of cakes we didn’t manage to eat - don’t worry, they were devoured later in the day!”
Ben and Alison offer afternoon tea to takeaway as well as in the coffee shop, with booking essential to ensure customers can enjoy the tasty treats.
Ben said: “We are completely blown away with winning this award and want to say a huge thank you to everyone who voted for us.
“It means the world that our humble little shop came out on top.
“A huge well done to the other finalists who are serving up some of the town’s best afternoon teas – you’re all doing an amazing job.”
