ALMOST two-thirds of adults in Warrington have received their first dose of a Covid-19 vaccine, the latest figures reveal.

NHS data shows that 108,691 people had received one vaccine jab by April 11 in the town – equivalent of 64 per cent of those aged 16 and over.

Of those vaccinated, 80,833 were aged 50 and above, which is 98 per cent of the age group.

It means 27,858 people aged between 16 to 49 have received a first dose of the vaccine.

A total of 23,485 second vaccine doses have also been administered in Warrington since the vaccination programme began.

The data also reveals variation in coverage between different areas across Warrington.

The proportion of residents prioritised for vaccinations, such as those aged 50 and over, is one factor that could affect vaccine coverage.

Appleton leads the way, with 80.1 per cent of its over 16 population receiving their first dose, followed by Great Sankey (73.8 per cent) and Penketh and Cuerdley (73.1 per cent)

Conversely, Fairfield & Howley has the lowest vaccine coverage at (47.6 per cent), and the area is closely followed by Bewsey and Dallam (51.6 per cent) and Central Warrington (53 per cent).

Across England, 26.9 million people had received their first dose of a vaccine by April 11, covering 59 per cent of the population aged 16 and over.

That includes 20 million people aged 50 and over – 95 per cent of the age group.

The figures also show that 6.4 million people have had a second dose of the jab, which equates to 14 per cent of people over 16.

The NHS in Warrington is currently focusing on ensuring people who had their first vaccine doses over the past 12 weeks receive their second dose, as well as trying to keep up the momentum in administering first doses in the town.

Residents aged 45 and over are now able to book their jabs via the NHS website.

This comes after the Government met its target to offer a first vaccine dose to those in priority groups one to nine three days early.

It had vowed to offer a vaccine to all UK residents over the age of 50, the clinically vulnerable and health and social care workers – which is roughly 32million people – by Thursday.
