RADIO Warrington presenters are setting up home studios to help people feel less alone during the coronavirus lockdown.

The radio station, at 1332 AM, is focusing on providing vital information over the airwaves, especially to those who are visually impaired and cannot read the news themselves.

As the Radio Warrington studios are located in Warrington market, volunteer presenters have set up home studios to keep the information flowing.

Steve Lewis, station manager, said: “We regularly read out news articles as they appear on the Warrington Guardian website, always crediting the source, as well as press releases from Warrington Borough Council, the NHS and other sources.

“Community radio is a vital lifeline and great company, particularly for those who live alone and cannot access the internet.

“So, we pass on all of the latest news along with a cheery voice to keep up our spirits through these difficult times.”

Councillor Maureen McLaughlin, cabinet member for housing, public health and wellbeing, added: “Right now the station is doing a fantastic job in helping to keep people positive during this difficult health crisis, informing them of the latest news and promoting ways to keep safe and healthy.

“The fact that they are keeping on air despite the difficulties of social distancing is another fine example of how people in our town are rallying round to support others, and I’m sure I speak for many when I say how thankful I am for the work they are doing.”

People in Warrington and the surrounding areas can tune in on their radios on 1332 AM medium wave, or through smart speakers or the Radio Warrington smartphone app.
