GOLDEN Square's Old Market Place transformed into a festive ice rink on Friday and Guardian reporter Jessica Farrington put on some skates to test it out.

With less than one month until Christmas Day, it is the perfect time to make use of the skating attraction which will remain in Warrington until January 5.

Real covered ice rink, Icescape, is also accompanied by Christmas stalls selling a selection of food and drinks.

With the likes of mulled wine, hot chocolate and bratwurst on your doorstep, you don't need to travel far for the ultimate festive experience.

Visitors can take to the ice even in the rain as the rink is covered by the historic marketplace canopy, adorned with Christmas decorations

You can even skate along to festive hits, making the experience all the more magical.

But for those who would benefit from a more relaxed atmosphere, Icescape offer a number of quiet sessions with less people taking to the ice and no music for a calm session.

Families with young children under five can also join in the fun with parent and toddler sessions.

During these sessions pushchairs are allowed on the ice and the team will provide free skating aids and props.

You don't need to be a professional to take part and skate marshals will make sure they give you a helping hand if you're shaky on your feet- you won't be alone!

Each skating sessions lasts for 45 minutes, starting from £6.

Group and school booking are also available.
