A FOUR-acre garden has been recognised as one of the best in the UK.
Grappenhall Heys Walled Garden, on Witherwin Avenue, has won the Green Flag award again – one of 1,884 parks and green spaces to receive the community award.
The garden is owned and maintained by Grappenhall & Thelwall Parish Council with support from the Friends of Grappenhall Heys Walled Garden which fundraises and arranges events throughout the year.

Kate Fitch, community outreach officer at the garden said: “We are absolutely delighted to receive a Green Flag Award for the second year running, achieving the maximum possible score.
“We know how much quality green spaces matter to residents and visitors, and this award celebrates the dedication that goes into maintaining Grappenhall Heys Walled Garden to such a high standard.
“We are especially grateful for the tireless efforts of our garden manager, Graham Richardson and also, the regular garden volunteers who help keep the four-acre site looking so good.”
The gardens are open all year round (except Mondays) - entrance is free.
