LIVEWIRE has extended a public consultation about proposals to close nine libraries across the town due to a huge response from residents.

The company has been speaking to people about the plans at a number of public meetings, some of which had to be moved to larger venues because so many residents attended.

The consultation was originally scheduled to close on October 4 but LiveWire has decided to extend it for an extra 17 days, until October 21, to allow more people to get involved.

Emma Hutchinson, managing director of LiveWire, said: “We welcome the many comments and suggestions we’ve received so far and would encourage more residents to have their say. 

“We will ensure all the comments and suggestions received are used to give a full report to the council on the feedback from these proposals.”

More than 900 residents have already taken part in eleven meetings and the company said it has received a ‘significant amount’ of responses to its plans to close libraries in Stockton Heath, Penketh, Lymm, Culcheth, Warrington Town Centre, Padgate, Burtonwood, Westbrook and Birchwood.

A petition set up by campaigners to save the town's libraries has already racked up almost 7,000 signatures.
