WARRINGTON North MP Helen Jones said she was 'threatened' with de-selection for the next General Election in the days before the Syria vote.

Mrs Jones backed the Government in the vote on air strikes on IS in the Commons on Wednesday.

But she said the weeks before were littered with abuse on social media, emails and threats to staff in her office from anti-war campaigners.

Mrs Jones was one of 66 Labour MPs to vote in favour of targeted air strikes.

Labour MPs across the country have also complained about bullying with shadow home secretary Andy Burnham today calling for a code of conduct to prevent bullying and intimidation of MPs.

Mrs Jones said: "I accept people can reach a different point of view (on Syria) but I am not going to accept threats.

"That is not a proper way of doing politics.

"I am even more concerned about what some of my younger colleagues have been subjected to and the pressure that has come on them.

"It is outrageous for people to behave in this manner, that is not how democracy should be conducted.

"I will be explaining to people who contacted me why I came to the decision I did, but I will not reply to people who make threats."

Mrs Jones said the abuse was the worst she has experienced since first elected to Parliament in 1997 and has been going on for some weeks.
