WARRINGTON Guardian readers can now sign up to get breaking news alerts sent direct to their mobile phones with a new service using Whatsapp.
The free service uses the popular messaging app and readers can subscribe to receive a summary of the news highlights of the day, plus any breaking news stories.
The alerts come straight to you so you are always up to date.
All you have to do is make sure you have Whatsapp downloaded on your phone and send us a text to subscribe.
Whatsapp is one of the fastest growing social media platforms with an estimated 500m users worldwide and it works across all smartphone platforms, including iPhone, Android, Windows Phone and Blackberry.
Web Editor Catherine Lawler said: “This is an exciting new offering for our readers as it delivers the news directly to them within seconds of us sending an alert.
“People are increasingly reading news on their phones while on the move, so this is a natural step for us to take.
“It is designed to complement our existing news services and readers needn't worry that we'll bombard them with messages - there will only be one bulletin a day, plus any major breaking stories."
The Warrington Guardian service uses the broadcast function so readers' details will be kept secret from other users. Readers' information will not be shared with other companies.
SIGN UP TO RECEIVE NEWS ALERTS
To sign up, simply follow these steps:

And if at any time you want the news alerts to stop, just message STOP to the same number.
