A TOWN centre homeless shelter battling to keep its doors open is pleading for financial support.

A £3,000-a-month grant – which Warrington Borough Council provides to Room at the Inn, on Winmarleigh Street – will remain in place until May next year.

But uncertainty continues to surround the long-term future of the funding.

The shelter says it costs £400 per day to deliver its services.

Room at the Inn and the Y Project says homelessness has increased in recent years and, therefore, it has made the service delivered via the emergency facility ‘more in demand than ever’.

Centre manager Susan Blyth added: “We believe we play an important part in assisting people at a most difficult time.

“We are developing better ways to respond to the needs of individuals and improve our services.”

A car boot sale and open day takes place next Saturday, August 24, to raise money for the shelter, while allowing people to find out more about the site, as well as about volunteering opportunities.

It will be held in the car park next to the site from 11am to 4pm.

Admission is free, with stalls costing £10.
