BARROW Hall College is celebrating its highest result to date as its students get top university places.

The Great Sankey-based college was filled with happy faces as a vast majority of those who applied to university secured their place.

Among those was Furkan Zurel who, having received offers from all of the prestigious medical schools, will be going to the University of Manchester to study medicine.

Speaking after achieving three A grades, he said: "I didn't find out online, I found out when I came to college.

"My family are really proud."

Also going to university are Will Benzies and Matthew Brew, who secured their places to study in Cambridge.

Tom Baines, Matthew Jones and Hannah Ellison were all excited with their results, meaning they can now go on to study law.

An increased number of students from the college will be studying maths at university, including Lewis Armson, who achieved A*A*A and Thomas Stockton with A*AB.

Head teacher, Rhianne Bond, said: "Barrow Hall College is celebrating its best ever results.

"We want to congratulate students and staff for all their hard work which has definitely paid off.

"This is particularly pleasing to report in a climate of reformed and more challenging level three qualifications.

"The class of 2019 have produced a fantastic set of results, beating last year's results in all measures.

"The A*-B grades in three subjects measure has increased by 17 per cent and A*-C by nine per cent.

"Students studying three facilitating subjects achieving A*AB has increased by eight-and-a-half per cent and those studying two and achieving A*AB has doubled."

The head teacher also took the time to praise both pupils and staff for upholding a 100 per cent pass rate in a variety of courses, including languages, English literature. social sciences and humanities.

She added: "The college team would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all of our students and to wish them the very best for what we are sure will be a healthy, happy and successful future.

"We would like to thank our staff- the results are testament to the quality of teaching at Barrow Hall College."
