TWO motorists have suffered major trauma injuries after a head-on crash involving three vehicles.

A driver was cut from his van by firefighters before being rushed to hospital after the incident on Winwick Lane in Kenyon shortly after 9.30am today, Wednesday.

The road was closed in both directions following the serious accident, involving two vans and a car.

Two fire engines were sent to the scene near to Kenyon Hall Farm, with the drivers of both vans being trapped inside their vehicles.

One casualty was safely removed from his van before being handed into the care of paramedics.

Specialist cutting equipment was used to remove the door of the other van in order to get the driver out of the vehicle.

The air ambulance was called to the scene, but two patients were taken to Salford Royal Hospital by road after suffering major trauma injuries.

One driver is believed the have suffered an injury to his leg.

Firefighters – who were on the scene for around an hour – assessed a spillage of cleaning products and diesel from one of the vans, with Warrington Borough Council called out to carry out a clean-up operation.

The road remained shut between the M6 and Newton Road into the afternoon as a result, but it has since reopened.

Police also attended the incident.
